N00b who just bought the cool models

list of what I've got:

akari

Kuma

Kyuubi

water kami

air kami

Im planning to get all cards and dice

what models do I need to round out the crew?  Im not a fan of the Ro Kan starter box but some of the monks are cool.  Id love to do a full animal list but I dont know if thats a reasonable way to play.

I was thinking about picking up a second crew so I could demo the game.  Is there a natural foil or enemy for Ro Kan?   I was considering pirates or Ito or possibly even Kage.  Thanks for your time!

Some cheap scoring models (cheapish monks or peasants ) will be a good idea to round out the temple.
Don't go kage if you want to do demo games. I think ito are great for demo'showing they have some fun tricks but are also reasonable though and good fighters. It will give you 2 reasonablyfast factions but with different focus. This might be both a boon and a curse.
I don't know much about the pirates but I think they are also a good option.

Thanks meaver!  I like the fisherman model a lot.  Which monks or other peasants would you say qualify?

I didn't realize both ito and temple were considered fast factions.. maybe I'll stick with pirates to illustrat a different style of play.

Both have quite a few people who ignore terrain and a lot who can boost their move or have move 5 already.

I really like Aiko (cheap easy to use and great support ) and kira (slightly more expensive but fights and has 0 dice pushes which really help keep you alive when outnumbered)

I would highly recommend buying the temple starter box. Rice farmers are a staple of many temple lists. They are great support models who can help your monks pull off some incredible shenanigans. They are also great for boosting your numbers, scoring objectives and preventing you from being out numbered. Besides this you will get Kenko and Yumi who are both great monks. Kenko in Particular is great if you use his Kenko the North tree profile found in the card packs. Master Ekusa is ok but really shines if your opponent likes to take big beatstick models. I have found that atsuko is Really only useful in a peasant themed list. Under normal circumstances I prefer to use Akio as a 4 point support model. You can Just use Atsuko as another peasant.

A full animal list is viable but will be short on activations as they are all on the expensive side perhaps consider padding out your list with some kami or cheap peasants.

If you like the fisher girl model and want to use her in games consider getting the Ashinaga Tenaga. He is a solid fighter in his own right and can buff nearby peasants. This will increase the amount of shooting your fisher girl can put out. In the cards you will find the fishermen of the shirimizu they are superior to the fishermen of the ro kan.

I hope you have a good time learning to use your Temple. They are a great faction with a lot of options and cool synergies. Like any game system bushido is a steep learning curve and the temple require a little finesse to use well but once you get the hang of them they are a very competitive faction.

the above link is my crew so far, sorry not tech savvy enough to figure out how to get the image in the forum.

Who else do I need?  Was thinking about getting the kaito model for the other pose, the fisherman or kintaru or all 3?

I really like Koji and one monkey for double scout and sixth sense benefits without gifting your opponent lots of pass tokens for the same number of activations (group activation can be a curse as well as a benefit). He also works well as a scenario grabber and four activations for 6 rice is really good, that leaves 4 rice for a second air Kami (for super fast mobility) or a more combat Kami, I'd also consider aiko for range healing/armour 2 on Akari as he is super squishy against brutal and powerful attack.

Akari being able to vitality after opponents are all exhausted and probably also auto disengage if required is really great though and means he can snipe tied up opponents or get sneak attacks/scenario actions off at the end of a turn to help reduce enemy numbers/steal a VP. I think those three models would take you to 50. It would be a very mobile list and having high model count helps Kuma take down opponents easier. 2 rice farmers may be better over Koji if you are planning to use Kuma as a beat down model over having more furrys. That way they count towards outnumbering etc and can help his boosts/feats for extra impact.

Kaito is pretty cool. His ability to lay down rough terrain before the game starts is great for board control in objective based missions as it can dictate where your opponent deploys. Kintaru is also ok. He's a solid enough fighter and being able to make a friendly model aware is pretty cool. Lately though I have found that Ume and Haru are better value at 5 points.
