New player samurai list suggestions

Hello, I'm new player technically returning to the game after first announced. I'm looking to make a full themed samurai list and looking for suggestions. I seen several other threads and have taken suggestions from them but they are several months old so I made this one.

As of now I have starter set, Daisuke, Ryoko, Katsumoto, and Akio. More than willing to buy more to fill out the list and to have the models in general.

Katsumoto I believe is basically an auto include from what I understand and what people have mentioned. I also think that Kenta has some merit as well. My LFGS are all new to the game and we will have a good variety of factions represented as a FYI.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

You have roughly 2 ways to play the samurai, one is very few models with a high cost, then Katsumoto and daisuke are very nice.

Or play with slightly more of the "cheap" samurai.

Katsumoto is good with a samurai list, when boosting at least 2 other big guys he is very good, but he is very expensive, so I would not say he is mandatory.

If you are heavy on the samurai then young takashi and someone like Daisuke really help the big samurai out a lot as well and also give some cheaper activations, although I am on the top of my head not completely sure if they can both be fielded in the samurai theme I think so but make sure to check.

Most of the ryu big samurai are reasonable but look carefully because some work well together and others less so.

I really like Iiju Makoto, although he is better when you have multiple 7/8 rice cost samurai to boost. He is also a good offensive figher himself, but misses some of the support features that katsumoto has.

If you take both young takashi, iiju and daisuke, you can still take 4 other samurai, which give you a low but not unusual 7 models in 50 rice. If you go for multiple big samurai in the samurai theme you will probably end up with only 5 or 6 models.

Thank you for the feedback. When you mentioned both "young Takashi are you referring to Genji and Eiji? Also, I'm going to double check again but I believe the dragon can be taken as well in the samurai theme. Have you had any experience with him? Think he is worth his points?

Young Takashi is an alternative profile for 6RC in the Ryu special cards pack and has inspire higher rice cost model for 2ki.
I haven't used the dragon, I expect he plays better in a mixed/Ashigaru list because in a samurai list you are heading towards a number of models more suited to Ninjas.

I would have thought 5" move, a knockdown 8" ranged attack that does damage and a lot of HP is worth a reasonable amount. 3MS can be a little fragile for 14RC though. He also has an alt profile that stuns with the ranged attack instead of prone and has alternative Ki abilities instead of hesitation. Both pretty good as support/speed models, probably a good choice for mobile and tankish VIM.
Plus he's a bloody great big dragon so worth the points for the coolness factor right?
