Questions from a potential Bushido beginner

Hi guys,

and happy new year first.
I need some advice. My brothers and I usually play Malifaux together but due to the complexity and tactical depth we finally managed to play games between 4-5 hours (to our families displesure).
Therefore I started looking around for an alernative and (since I already play the asian faction at Malifaux) stumbled uppon Bushido.
But before trying to convince my brothers into another tabletop I need a few questions answered first:

1. How long does a standard sized game usually take? The battle reports on youtube suggest between 30 to 120 minutes for a 50 rice game. What is your experience?

2. I see there is a new edition coming up. How long do you think it will take until the new rules will have their official release? Would it be advisable to start with Bushido now?

3. How playable are the miniatures? Can you play every model? Is there anything else to be aware of as a beginner?

4. Some models appear to be not as detailed as others. I guess that's due to their age. So is it likely that older miniatures will have a resculpt at any time?

5. At which rate are new models released? One month, Two months, more than that? Does every faction get new models with every wave?

Thank you for your answers in advance. :)

Regards,

Felix

Can answer some of this from my personal POV...

1. How long does a standard sized game usually take?

About 1 hour+ in my expereince. We did manage a rushed game in 40 mins. We've done 4 player games too in about 2 hours.

2.  Would it be advisable to start with Bushido now?

Given you can download the current rules and it's a great game, I'd say yes!
They have a steep learning curve, but totally worth it. I hope new version addresses that.

3. How playable are the miniatures? Can you play every model? Is there anything else to be aware of as a beginner?

We've found all ones we have work well (about 5 of us playing the game in a group).

Thanks

Thank you for your response. Doesn't sound bad to me. Already read the rules and it looks like I'm about to fall in love. :D

Just to add, I find it a bit easier than Malifaux. The first few games you may have to wade through the special attacks and special abilities but that is fairly standard with any game.

As for the models, I have found them fairly detailed (even the older sculpts) though some can be a bit fiddly to glue together. Coming from Malifaux though, you shouldn't have any difficulties with that.

To me...

1. How long does a standard sized game usually take? The battle reports on youtube suggest between 30 to 120 minutes for a 50 rice game. What is your experience?

About 120 mins to complete the Mission, but often - if you only want to see who wins - takes no more than 60 mins (you already know who wins by calculating Victory Points)

2. I see there is a new edition coming up. How long do you think it will take until the new rules will have their official release? Would it be advisable to start with Bushido now?

Dunnow... New Dawn (2nd Edition) was a great game, now Rising Sun (3rd Ed.) is also a GREAT game! with my friend we begin to play Rising sun because we found the flavour of the game is better, and core rules doesn't change so much.

3. How playable are the miniatures? Can you play every model? Is there anything else to be aware of as a beginner?

Every miniature is playable, sometimes some models fits a role better than other but every single profile is good to play.

4. Some models appear to be not as detailed as others. I guess that's due to their age. So is it likely that older miniatures will have a resculpt at any time?

Dunnow about resculpt. But don't be negatively impressed, I found in every model a lot of personality, even if older or seems without so much details.

5. At which rate are new models released? One month, Two months, more than that? Does every faction get new models with every wave?

Luckily (to me) not so frequently. Your faction gain a new model every 3-4 months on the average, with the arrival of newest factions I think releases would concentrate upon them. So you can play a lot without a game-changing model every month.

After all, I say to you: begin with Bushido! It's a great game that worth your time.

@omenbringer

Yeah, that's usually how it works. :)
But I disagree on the miniatures. Sure, a lot look amazing but to me models like Kenko, Yumi or Prefecture starter need and deserve a little "update" (just my opinion).

@Sgnappa

Thank you. 1, 2, 3 and 5 sounds good to me. Couldn't wait so I already bought my first miniatures. :)
Regarding 4 lets see ... maybe my "prayers" (aka bitching) will be heard one day. xD
