Benelux Bushido Tournament 11/5

It is that time of the year again. When the factions gather for conflict. As spring is blossoming into summer warbands form all across the Lowlands to join the fight. To stake claim, attain riches or shower in glory.

The Dutch Masters of last year has been upgraded to the Benelux Masters and this year we go at it on the 11th of May 10:00 to 19:15 (estimated). The location is Gamers Of The West on Zaagmolendrift 9, in Rotterdam.

Risen Sun Rules. 100 rice. 4 games. Doors open at 10:00 and the first game starts at 11:00.

Entry 10 EUR. Sign up by contacting me over Facebook or via olof.a.hedberg@gmail.com

I hope to see you there!

Time on warmer winds grow closer. New life spire over the land. Now plans are carefully put into motion. Scouts and messengers carrying word and the sound of armoured boots marching. With new life comes both resources to take and those that would take them.

Would you take that which by might is rightfully yours or would you stand up to fight those who live to prey on others?

------

As we are getting closer to the date I have sadly received substantial cancellations on all sides. I do, despite this, intend to make the event happen with the current.. 6 confirmed players and 2 maybe's. So there is still time to change your mind.

See you in a few weeks?

Tournament report - 1st Benelux Masters

Hoping to expand the player base for the tournament we spread the challenge a bit further this year. Which was lucky because we almost ended up not having a tournament due to cancellations. In the end 7 players answered the call to determine who was the best Bushido player in the Benelux region. Kinda. Since Andy joined us from Scotland.

The setting was 4 games a 100 rice on the 11th of May at Gamers of the West in Rotterdam. As organizer I stepped in to play the bye games with the rule that the first two games would follow normal matching and the results would remain while the last two games would be against the lowest scoring player with at least a 2-0 victory for said player. The end result? Exactly the same as last year.

Not only did we have a lot more Prefecture this year but they also did quite well. Dennis fielded comparably fewer but also generally stronger models than everyone else with his Blood of the Dragon warband. Here seen slowly diminishing the bakemono numbers of Tim until victory was finally achieved.

Andy fielded a Prefecture pass token generation machine with the aim to critically strike the opposition down. Critical strike is fickle tool that needs to happen at the right place at the right time. Dennis VIM survived this battle but Andy had the better placement and took the win.

Bram, last but not least, brought a Katsumoto and Hanso led ashigaru warband. Here seen not fighting Kage Kaze Zoku for domination of the middle zone and instead using superior number of activations to control both objectives. 18 scenario points beats 12 and thus Prefecture beat Kage.

Ninjas make good warbands for VIM-conditions though as Joost got to experience. Tarobo was hunted down and obliterated while the hill tribesmen just could not do the same with the opposing VIM. Nope. That is not it being surrounded and pounded into the ground. That is the ninja they took out their frustrations on in the last turn of the game.

Despite the Prefecture success there was one force they just could not deal with and that was Death (and decay). Micha, reigning champion from last year, had decided to bring the same (adjusted to the new edition) warband as last year and proved to be equally unstoppable. The horde of cheap kairai, led by Kato and Yugio, basicly tired out, outnumbered and finally overwhelmed all opposition. Here seen keeping Andy's last remaining samurai alive to score the deciding victory point. How on earth did they get access to the choke point when they are so slow? Let's just say that the marionette is good at opening doors.

When the dust had settled, everyone was dead (or a risen) and the ceremonial cake made by Joost had been eaten (delicious!) it was time to pack up and go home. To Belgium, Scotland, other parts of the Netherlands or just around the corner. It is probable that this was the last time we had the opportunity to gather at Gamers of the West as the physical store is closing down. I am happy that we were able to end the era on a good note.

Last but not least I want to thank everyone for their participation and especially Joost and Peter for their contributions before and during the event as well as West for letting us use the venue one last time. Despite the lack of players and venue I have hopes that the new edition will spark some life into the game here on the mainland so that I can arrange the tournament again next year.
