New Player....What is Risen Sun

Greetings everyone. I am a new player (starting with Ito clan)and started to motivate my gaming group to start Bushido(if ever we will the first ones playing it in our country). I just have some questions as we are starting to research stuff and looking at the rules and stat cards. Is Risen Sun a new edition? (Meaning the current downloadable rules and models stat cards will be outdated) I downloaded a pdf file with Ito stats (under the risen sun article) and saw that Itsunagi is at 25 rice...way different from 13. So will game sizes change? Our group is at the impression that we will start at 35 rice. I was looking at the Ito special card pack ....a) is this worth getting? B) if there is a new edition with new rice levels changes will these be outdated? If the special cards packs are worth getting, pack 2 is out of stock... any idea when stocks will be replenished?

Risen Sun is the next edition of the game.  The aim is to have it available for GenCon, but we'll see how production goes.  I would jump straight into the Risen Sun rules instead of the New Dawn stuff, it will save you a lot of time unlearning things.

The rice costs in Risen Sun have doubled - so basic games are 70 rice, and tournament games jump up to 100 rice.

Yes, the current special card packs will be made obsolete.

Honestly I would say the card packs aren't worth it anymore given how close Risen Sun is to release and the fact you can download the draft PDFs to see what they all do.

The final Risen Sun rules will also be available to download when they are officially released.

Rice costs were doubled as Palmer noted, this was to allow better balancing of models in the game. (A previuosly 7 rice model can now be 13, 14, or 15 rice depending on how it needs to be balanced whereas before it would be 7*2 = 14 and you could only make it 6*2 = 12 or 8*2 = 16 if that makes sense).

I think everyone is playing Risen Sun at this point to help playtest and to learn the new rules. As palmer said the information you would get in the card packs is similar to what is in the risen sun pdfs, but the card packs will be soon obsolete. Normally you should 100% get the card packs, but you're picking up the game at a weird time between the editions.

I wouldn't be surprised if no more new dawn card packs are being printed, but not 100% sure.

Thank you for the replies.

When is GenCon btw?

And will starter sets be repackaged? (Or new starter sets?)

I can’t believe I just bought 6 card packs for $50 from Game Kastle 2 weeks ago. Such sad news.

Sorry to hear that, we tried to announce the new edition a year in advance to stop exactly this problem.

another newb question from me, so as not to start a new thread. I see the renders for the news starters, are they going to be plastic/ resin/ restic? As opposed to current metal? Like Knights models have done? I ask only as I am looking at the cult of yurei starter, and if its gonna be better to wait for the re do of the starter, then im gonna wait. I ma borrowing my mate's currently so no rush as such. Also is there a Beta rules or something I can use now as I wait for RS? cheers for any advice
