Bushido Wiki Development

Hi all,

Some of you may have seen via Facebook that I am developing a wiki for Bushido, and I wanted to kick off a forum thread for tracking progress and feedback etc..

Note that I have sought approval from GCT to develop this, and they are keen for it to happen :)

The primary purpose of the wiki is to improve the experience for all Bushido players by providing a quick reference which is searchable, and includes FAQs for all aspects of the game. It will be especially useful for new players to help them get into the game more quickly.

The site is up and running via WikiDot, but I'm keeping it private while I flesh out the structure and get it looking "pretty".

I and have identified the following key areas to be included:

1. Introductory information about the game itself and notes about the version of the rules and any errata referenced.

2. The rulebook content as it appears in the book, broken up into sections which can have their own FAQ applied e.g. Ranged Attacks has its own section with a breakdown of how the mechanic works and a FAQ page associated.

3. Pages for each faction with information in a standardised format which includes; background info (fluff), playstyle(s), strengths, profile types available to the faction, and a summary of the faction themes.

4. Pages for each profile type (Samurai, Shisai, Ashigaru, Shugenja, Yokai, Monk etc..) with a brief description of what they are and what they do. Plenty of scope for fluff to be included here.

5. Errata information broken down into categories e.g. card misprints, profile stat updates etc.. This will be unofficial, but the information will need to be approved and validated by a rep from GCT, and will have a clear reference to the most current official errata document to ensure there is no conflict/confusion. The idea here is to have a running ledger of clarifications which can be cleared when a new version of the errata is released.

6. Useful links to resources such as; these forums, the GCT store, Andy Palmer's Jumo Ring blog, Richard James' Hidden Fortress blog etc..

Once I have the site looking the way I want it, and the basic structure and content all loaded and formatted, I will open it up for community involvement (need to work out the best way to allow collaboration without things getting too messy).

In the meantime, I would be grateful to anyone who would like to provide some feedback on the proposed structure, and also anyone who would like to start writing some articles for inclusion. At this stage the most useful stuff would be the "faction info" and "profile type" descriptions so I can paste these in and get the content moving.

Look forward to your feedback and input :)

I would say add in every cards Rule in written form
If GCT is going to cooperate with you transferring the cards rules from preexisting Word/PDF should be easy... Not the overall task itself it will be a pretty big undertaking but not having to type letter for letter each cards Rule should help... I'd contact them to see if it's a possibility
This will give a link for discussion of every type of build a player could make... From upgrade, themes and character cards it would create a complete wiki

Thanks for the input.

Every rule will be covered and have a FAQ, and I plan to include links between things that are related e.g. the Poison trait and the Poisoned state etc..

The ki feats on the profile cards all relate to specific rules in the book which will be covered, so not sure duplicating all the profile cards themselves would be necessary. There is work underway to get everything into BattleScribe for warband building, which will make that aspect easier.

Would the ability to build lists via Battlescribe meet the need you see do you think?

The site will evolve and build over time (I hope), so if the community wants something it can be added :)

I can start with the Cult (but have in mind it is my opinion and I play Bushido only for 1 year)

The Cult is probably the most difficult faction in the game but also the strongest. Cult can play hordes of zombies and Control game with the shugenja/yokai. It is the weakest faction in terms of damage output. Aside from zombies and ghosts (yokai) there are the burakumin and they are support and fighter characters.

The main strenght from the cult is FEAR and opposed Ki Feats. Nearly all models have fear or can gain it via a card.
There are 3 Shugenjas each with a Ki value of 3. Ikyrio deals direct damage, Waku weakens the enemy to deal more damage and Kato summons zombies and put control tokens on enemys.

There are 2 Themes in the cult right now:

- Death and Decay: It is the zombies theme. You gain a zombie for each dead (non soulless) model

- Nightmares of Jingoku: Ghosts and Kamis. Haunt your Enemy with 3 of the 7 deadly sins, rat people and other asian nightmares

If you are playing Cult you must play dirty, mean and without honour. Your opponent will start to hate you for picking up this faction

I can write some thoughts about the models if you want me to continue

I wouldn't put any absolutes if I were you.

As soon as you write "Cult is the most difficult faction" you will get people arguing saying X or Y is more difficult, same with "strongest faction"and "weakest in terms of damage output" someone will want to say their faction is more difficult, weaker or stronger...

Thanks for contributing guys. Your effort and feedback will be incorporated :)

I started on an Ito faction page, so will flesh that out and share so people can get an idea of what I have in mind in regards to format.

I’ll also throw together a “profile type” page example and see what everyone thinks.

Building the wiki provides the opportunity to consolidate the fiction from each product page into a more user-friendly browsing experience.

Do you mean the text attached to each mini on the GCT web store?

Assuming so, do you think it would be better to have separate pages for each, or condense them based on faction?

Yeah. I think a separate page for each... Maybe GCT will be able to dig out artwork for them too?

Sounds good.

I will see what I can get in terms of card images also. Adding these on each profile page would also address Dustgod’s point above without a lot of data entry.

It's not that I hate to use this analogy is just a good model to aspire too...
I don't know if you have Infinity Army Builder downloaded but you should take a look at how they link the Army Builder to the wiki if you're going that route it will make things much easier for the fans...
I also agree with Jason I wouldn't put any "Opinions" about which is the best worst hardest or weakest factions to play I would stick strictly to the rules and getting those rules in the hands of the fans and making if possible cross references between this app and the wiki...

If you haven't downloaded Infinity Army Builder downloaded just so you can see the interface

Yes, I’m familiar with Infinity Army and it is definitely awesome. I’ve often visualised what a Bushido version might look like.

I don’t know what options there may or may not be to link wiki info to BattleScribe. Sure it would be nice, but honestly the impact such a link would have is not really that big IMHO. There just aren’t as many or as complex list building options for Bushido as Infinity, and the rules are very light and manageable in comparison.

Don’t get me wrong. Having an app like Infinity would be absolutely amazing, and I hope that one day the guys at GCT can achieve something equally as cool because people would go nuts for it. If I had the coding talent I’d probably be building that as a hobby right now instead of a wiki :)

Update.

GCT have responded to my email and offered access to some of their artwork and stuff to help flavour the site and tie it more closely with the published material.

Thanks guys!

A fully-integrated solution would need funding. I'd love one, too, but the scale of the two companies is currently quite different. Maybe one day in the future.

As for Battlescribe & the wiki, there is no scope for integration there.

Great news on the art!
