Starter Warband
Hi Everyone, I got 2 of the new starterwarbands for Christmas, one is the Cult and the other Ito. I have started to painting them up and the results for the first two come out quite nicely (as far as they are my first minis ^^) Maybe will post some pics in the future, if I find a way to proper base them. So now to my question: My “little brother” will visit me soon so I will have the chance to test out the game it self the first time. My plan is to explain him all the rules briefly, what I´m confident to do. I only believe starting the first game with the full Warband of 5 Minis might be a bit to much! Especially since we both give it a first shot. In the 2-player Starterset is already a warband for the Ito with 3 Minis, so I thought of using those with the included cards I found online, but I have no idea what I should use for the cult. My first Idea was just to use the 2 Yokai and add the cheapest model of the Burakumin in, but than there is no room for any cards and I´m not really confident if it were a good choice. Can you help me? Is the List for the Ito even matched good? Do you have other advise?

I don't really know if it would make an even match as I don't know enough about the Cult, what I do know is that so few models a single lucky or unlucky fight can easily decide the whole battle so I wouldn't be too concerned about balance.

2 Yokai + Burakumin is 46 rice, if you want upgrade cards you can play 50 rice but not having any room for cards is fine. All the starter sets are 70 rice without any upgrade cards (other than theme) and with 70 rice being the recommendation for causal games means they are meant to work fine without upgrade cards.

Also I would not recommend upgrade cards (not even theme) for the first game to reduce complexity, going to be enough stuff to keep track of without them.

Yeah definetly. I would get the 2 Yokais and the cheapest Burakumin.

As Mcgreag mentioned: With so few models every unlucky roll is really harsh (but if you keep that in mind and try to play a few more games then it is redundant)

As for the "power level" of the starter box I would guess the Ito is higher. I dont really like the new Burakumin but that is my preference. Just try the game and have fun. And never forget that this game is about the scenario play NOT the killing!

Nice to know, especially that I should use the 2 Yokai instead of a second or third Burakumin. I just thought their purpose is to work together and give each other Ki, also if I´m not really sure how to use it. Sure it´s supposed to trait life for Ki and then making their special effects to eventually kill someone by it and regaining all their life. But since all have other effects it seams really lucky that it ever comes into play before the target dies from the blow or the Burakumin dies before. At least it seems that you can’t calculate with it, so not sure what´s there point of shining. Playing scenarios was clear to me, but thanks again Sora! Actually I´m that kind who circles around a game for very long time, before he catches it. ;-) Since of your answers I´m now wondering, if 3 models is really a good way to start, or if I should bring in the whole box for the first game.

As for your first 2 or 3 games stick to the 3 models. If you got a grasp on the rules and the scenarios (there is a in work file of the scenarios

In general all Risen Sun starter sets are very well balanced amongst each other. Much better than the starter sets for New Dawn in any case.

70 rice is a good starting point to learn the game so you can just use all the models included in both starters you have and go from there.
