Really beautiful work! Do you pre-shade at the priming stage and then carfully glaze and touch-up blend or do you do a single color primer coat first and build up the shadows and highlights manually?
No pre-shading here. It's all
No pre-shading here. It's all basecoat with the mid tone, then shade and highlight with touch-ups as I go along.

Since CDHay discovered Bushido at Salute, there's been a bit of a resurgence in interest locally.
So it's time to dust off the primed peasants I have on the painting desk, first Kaito (who will be closely followed by a couple of fishermen).

Beautiful work, as always. I like the way you kept the color theme running between the peasant and the bamboo stalks behind him. That bamboo is really beautiful.
Also, really nice touch giving him a bit of hair on the arms.

May I ask, do you use any glaze medium, paint retarder or similar? Any inks involved?
Thanks in advance.
Greetings from a painting newbie.

Just tap water. Very rarely I'll use glaze medium, but never retarder; I could never get on with it.
At school I learnt to paint with poster paints and carried on using the same ideas for blending acrylics, just blending along the edge of the shading colour and using thin layers for highlighting.
What colors of flesh paint
What colors of flesh paint would be best for females, lets start with one of the easier one, one of the Roses, or do you just use the same colors as you would with a caucasian female?

Sorry I've been neglecting the thread.
@etchr: It depends on what I've got out on my painting desk.
For East Asian skin I'd start with VMC cork brown, shade with washes/glazes of flat earth, mahogany brown with a bit of purple in it. Highlight by adding in something golden (dark flesh/sunny skintone) then basic fleshtone for highlights. I don't stick with hard and fast recipes, just whatever is nearest. Then tweak tones/saturation with glazes.
I'll put photos of Kouhei and Rin up later this week.
