First try against Ito
And that was pretty messy. It was in 40 pts on zone controls. I couldn't do anything with 3 guys of the starter. He played Ito with 2 snakes (do they count for scoring zones ?) and he played elite people with many abilities I couldn't do anything against. Is it normal ? or Did I just misplay my 3 little birds by searching to engage ? What do you think of the starter ? Against ennemies with feint, prowess and 4 dices in melee etc what do you do ? because I couldn't even attack them without being killed :/

Playing at 40 dice weird things can happen. The descension starter works very well at 70-100 rice, not the easiest starter to play but a good one.
In such small games having very cheap activations can be a very very big advantage, i would recomend playing at 70 rice for beginer games. Or at least with the same amount of miniatures of similar rice cost.

When facing powerful miniatures its key to lower their dice pool by outnumbering them, stuning, proning, exhausting... And try to kill the easier targets fast so they have no support. You will find that elite warbands are not that good and most of the time is better to have some more cheaper activations than only powerful ones.

Also, descension has plenty of ranged attacks, those are nondependant on the opponent stats, its another good way to soften them... Or if you try with Buzenbo even killing them

Honestly, the game isn't designed for 40 points.

The little snakes do count for zones.

As Tengu, defend and outmaneuvre. They are the most maneuvrable faction, thought Ito are second. Dictate your own terms of engagement. Use the suzume Place effects: https://rjahiddenfortress.blogspot.com/2020/02/bushido-101-tengu-power-of-place.html

Thanks for your link ! I didn't notice what place effect was really meaning :) My next game versus Ito is for tonight at 75 pts I've got 5 tengu models (the starter) but I think I will use proxi to get more stun and more caracteristics way to play descension. I've got some proxy avaible to make kami Do you have any advices on how to build a good tengu crew ?

Tengu are good at maneuvering and conpleting scenario missions. Their main tactic is fight and retreat overwhelming the oposing miniature they want to kill and retreating fast before choosing a nee target. I would recomend to have 1-2 defensive models to engage and couple of fast ones to attack as a flock and eliminate targets. The rest is up to your taste or playstyle.
Descension do have nice ranged attacks that can be used to soften strong enemies and if you need something to ram into your opponent the barbarians arent as mobile but they pack a punch for their cost

As a beginner, starter+buzenbo seems a good way of getting started into the faction. Starter plus couple suzume is also a great way, but would require a bit more of investment

I had some success recently with a Tengu list. Will be doing a podcast episode on it.

  • Shepherds of the White Mesa
  • Suzume Flock
  • A couple of unreleased special cards
  • Ryuhobo
  • Seibo
  • Honbo
  • Shubo
  • 2x Zephyr Guard
  • 2x Hilltribe Warriors

Lots of maneuvreability. Fear is a problem. The Hilltribe Warriors are there to compensate.

Actually faced a Fear-heavy Cult of Yurei Warband and got 3-0. Failed plenty of Fear Tests, but there are enough models, that I was able to interact with scenario bjectives whatever my opponent chose to do. A Hilltribe Warrior using War Cry to make Rokuro Frightened and then kill him in a single hit was nice :)
