GCT - future releases?

Now first let me say I am a huge fan GCT, I think what they have done to date is amazing, the Bushido game is a fantastic system, the miniatures look awesome and the setting is really cool.

One of the things that has really impressed me is the release schedule, not the amount but always been careful to stick to release dates (at least as far as I've noticed).

I'm also a backer of Rise of the Kage, I'm really looking forward to the game and to seeing the Shadow Wind clan ninjas in Bushido.

But I am a little concerned that GCT are now spreading themselves a little thin, with the increased number of factions (soon to be 7) and the second game. One of the side things that drew me in, the Life in Jwar isles seems to have stopped a while back. I can think of a least one the miniatures that didn't really get any fluff too.

Bearing all that in mind and the fact the 4 original factions are now pretty well rounded ( I won't say complete because we all know we will always want new shinies for our faction and there will always be space for more of certain aspects in each faction), how would people feel about the current release pattern changing? Maybe a new faction getting a starter set and then them and the Silvermoon and Ito Clan sticking to the current pattern with the others getting a release half as often? I personally feel it would be good to get a slight drop of in the original four in favour of getting more fluff, more play-testing on models and getting new factions out quicker. If GCT were to change the pattern I'd still really want to see them announce what the new schedule would be and still stick to it tightly, ideally a while before the shift.

I believe the basics GCT have given out are that there are roughly 6 releases per wave, and the factions of those releases vary a bit with the newer factions: expect more releases for the newer factions, and less for the older.  That's why there wasn't a Prefecture specific release for a couple of waves, though they did still get the 'ronin' models (Yukio Kushimori/Grey Pilgrim), and Silvermoon had a wave with a bajillion releases if you include their ronin models - it was something like the Kyoaku-Han, Old Zo, and Yukio Kushimori.

Now  ༼ つ ._. ༽つ give Minimoto.  Everything is better with bears.

Yea I' pretty hyped for the Minimoto too but "sadly" we will get the Tengu first.

Also the release scheadule will change as Palmer said already.(I can't really remember though if this information was given on the forum or from some of the podcasts that talked about bushido...*sigh* I miss Bushido Podcasts...) I wonder though if there will be a point where they will just stop releasing models for some older factions for like 6 month.

Also while I do like the number and density of the releases it makes me wonder how long it will take to render some older models completly obsolete. So far thankfully this is avoided but there is a chance it will happen. And if thats remedied by making more Traits and Special Attacks/Defenses then soon we will have a thousand damn Traits making the game harder to learn and maybe even too complex.

I just hope GCT already has these things down on paper or something. And last but not least let's get hyped for the winged snake! \o/

As a company we are always trying to support our game in the best way we see fit. One of the important aspects of the game that we challenge ourselves to continue to uphold is the diffence between the factions.

As some have already noticed as the range and options for the older models increase there is less need to support them with releases at the current rate. We have lots more factions and sub/factions we want to add to the game and so new factions will have a more concentrated number of releases in order to bring them up to speed at point of release. Older factions will of course continue to be supported but variety of opponents/factions adds to the enjoyment and so we will be concentrate getting new things out there to you guys.

I recently jumped in Bushido and will probably start to play someday :)

As both a miniature collector and a fan of anime, the Japan fantasy settings are what drew me into Bushido. However, I don't like very much the recent news from a visual standpoint (especially disappointed with the latest Ito designs).

Although I am trying to pick up all the miniatures, I am mainly interested in ronins with katanas (no armor) and the only ones that really caught my attention where Ito Itsunagi and Chiyo so my question for the future of the Bushido range: will there be more samurais like Itsunagi and Chiyo in terms of visual aspect (besides what has been announced for Rise of the Kage)?

There could be many influences: the French comic books Okko and Samurai and the following anime: Bleach, Mugen No Juunin, Ninja Scroll, Samurai Deeper Kyo and Samurai Champloo among others.

Moreover, it would be great to see an undead ronin for the cult of Yurei at some point.

Also, something I like is the fact that the game is character driven. Seeing unique characters with their own backstory is a great added value for the lore compared to many other miniature games that only offer generic soldiers.

My two cents :)

Welcome to the game asura!

Well if you want ronin you will propably have to wait till the release of the Shiho clan which is still eons away. If you want more samurai then you should propably check out the Prefecture as thats their main design (though the Ito have some samurai too).

As for an undead ronin there is not really a need for that, and it would be kinda too soon. Tadao the kairai samurai is still so fresh as a relase so no need for a ronin AND a samurai.

Also you should understand that Bushido and it's world Jwar is NOT just japanese folklore. It has chinese, korean, malaysian and all asian folklore mixed into it. Also while some things are taken from the folklore as is (like Tengu and their long noses), other things get changed in the process of incorporating them into the world of bushido (for example the Penngalang and mostle the Nian are their own original designs).

Btw most of what you listed as inspiration from anime are kinda things I don't want to see in Bushido(even though I love anime), the only notable ones that could actually be good as inspiration are the Blade of the Immortal and Ninja Scroll though I would even add Basilisk and any kind of a seinen type stuff instead of all the shounen. (Though I must admit it would be amusing to see an Afro Samurai mini smiley) All this is just my personal preference so take it with a pinch of salt I guess.

I have seen all the designs of all miniatures but I'm not entirely sold on Prefecture as most of them wear an armor.

References like Blade of the Immortal or Ninja Scroll depicts ronin samurais wearing a kimono and fighting with a katana. This is exactly the kind of characters I'd like to see added in Bushido.

I assume Jwar Isles Samurai don't like to be easily cut, and thus wear armour. I think Jung pirates will fit your likes, being no armoured ronin style.

As you said, you already have Itsunagi Ito and the Temple bushi, Chiyo included, as well as Saburo and probably some other close-future Ashigaru, so you'll have no trouble making a list of your like. Add up a couple of Shisai and you already have a perfectly playable 50 rice list .

I want more monsters, animal, shugenjas, kami, hebimiman, and original characters. Only samurai is boring. Ito has a nice collection of models, visualy and in game. Personally I would like to see more characters like Naoko, Saburo and Mizuki, I love them ^^ like a 50% of them in the faction. The new flying snakes seem cool, just like Yatsumata. Overall is a great faction to collect.

Prefecture started very original: Hiro, Bikou, Mikio, Tenchi, Matsu, Mizuchi... Lack of direction in the faction maybe, but very unique characters. Then the faction became more vanilla with lots of ashigaru and samurai (some of them really awesome, like Katsumoto and Ryoko). But again all samurai/ashigaru is boring, is nice if the faction has 50% of special/rare models and 50% of samurai/ashigaru. I can't wait to see the samurai spectre that GCT hinted to us in latest previews ^^

Savage Wave really is the worst faction when we speak about models. At least that is my impresion. The bakemono need more unique characters like Uk-Kang, Zung-Fu or Tra-Peng. The policy of horde feel is spoiling the faction, I think. The bakemono are horde, the Oni are tough guys, and Onisho and beasts are awesome and original models to fill the army. Horde-like Kaihei aren't needed in my oppinion, that role is already covered by bakemonos. The Savage wave have the potential of being one of the coolest factions of the game, and Is becoming a bit uninteresting (don't take my wrong, I love the faction, but need a couple of fixes to shine).

The Temple is my favourite faction. It has all. Awesome looking models. Lots of fun to play. Interesting combinations. Versatile, competitive, and beautiful on the table. Except Atsuko and Fishermen, all the Temple releases have been amazing. Very happy with that faction really. Same with the Cult of Yurei. Except the kairai horde (that lots of people loves), Araka and gengo; the rest of the faction models are genius, very fun to play and unique feel: Kato, Taka, Nezumi, Wanyudo, Wraith, Shichiro... very interesting! The STS is very original and fun also, the combination of cheap animals, butos, roses, and oyabun is wonderful. Nice releases so far. And the new "Evil Monk" seems awesome as well. Well done.

The new factions: Tengu, Shiho, Minimoto, Shadow Clan, Jung... (I personally want to see Tengu and Jung before Shiho or Minimoto. ) probably will be awesome aswell and very different on table. Even the Ito and Prefecture that can seem similar are very different on playstyle. Great job so far.

About  "the Silvermoon and Ito Clan sticking to the current pattern with the others getting a release half as often" I think that some factions can need more models (Savage wave) than Ito Clan actually, soo is not a very good idea. But the factions with more models (temple by far) can wait without releases 1-2 waves without problems in my oppinion.

Like always, seems like GCT has a lot of plans for Bushido. I'm curious about the "sub-factions" that Mastert-T has commented. They have done an awesome job with this game so far, not an easy task with the huge array of models currently at our disposal. Lets see what the future brings to the game, and like every week, lets anxiously wait for the constant Bushido blog updates that the staff give to us all :D

Thanks for the reassurance guys. Good to know you are planning on not sacrificing quality for quantity and that these issues have already been considered.

Has a date been set for the next faction? (Is it definately tengu or has that been assumed?)

I think it's pretty mutch set in stone that the next faction is the Tengu because there was all this voting and stuff and the Tengu was the one the majority of the ppl wanted. I found them pretty cool though until I read the book and then I realized they are portrayed as Temple but have Tengus instead of monks and hillsmen instead of peasants.

Personally I find the minimoto more interesting because of their snippets of lore from the book. I'm just dieing to see the yuki-onna type ice shisai thingies that they have and their overall design is mutch better once you read more about them.(Like the basic guidline don't make them THAT interesting...big guys with tetsubos and heavy armor just sounds like a spiced up Ryu which they seem not to be according to their lore).
