Oni Rage and Berserk

Hi together,

I am not too new to the game but new on the forum. Anyhow, I am still trying to get my head around the rules.

I hope I have not missed the clarification of this question.

If I take Oni rage in the first turn, the Oni goes berserk:

  1. Now, do I have to charge or can I also choose the melee action and just do the walk?

I would read the rules (“This model may only declare Melee or Charge actions and needs to attempt to move into BtB in the most direct route possible, with the nearest Enemy model”) that I only have to end the move closer to the enemy model. I might be a bit too relaxed on this.

  1. If the Oni has to charge: I could also use the Ki Feat “Darkness”. The Ki Feat says that I only need to be the active player. And darkness would prevent the Oni from targeting any model (“If the model is unable to Target an Enemy due to a trait, Ki Feat or Unique Effect it may perform any action”). Am I right?... or just twisting the rules in a way that I want? :-)

Thank you very much for the clarification.

1.  You may declare the Melee action.  The model must move its full distance as directly as possible towards the nearest enemy model.  So no, “just closer” doesn’t cut it.

2.  Ki feats from the Horde card are only accessible when you are activating a Bakemono.

The Berserk model still has valid actions to declare (Melee) regardless.  Melee actions do not require LoS.

Thank you Ret-a_Palmer.

  1. Sorry, I was maybe too vague.

Can I also choose in turn 1? When neither charge nor melee would get me into BtB? Or would the Oni need to charge as this would bring him closer than melee?

  1. The Ki Feat Darkness has an A in a square. Under Ki Feat it reads:

Active Player:

• Can only be used when this model’s Controller is the Active Player, even if it is not the Active Model.

So I could use it before the Oni moves due to melee or was there a change I missed? This question was rather meant in case the Oni has to charge under 1. How could I prevent it? Charge targets a model and Darkness prevents from targeting further than 4 “ away.

Thank you very much for your answer.

Ignore Darkness, look at the Bakemono Horde text.  You can only access the Ki feats when activating a Bakemono.

Yes, you can Oni Rage away on turn one with almost no consequences... most of the time.  You can declare Melees while massively out of range.

That was quick. Thank you very much.

Okay. I see my mistake. Sorry. It was on the other side of the card blush
