Great video, enjoyed it with my coffee this morning! I've just bought into the game with an Ito Starter set for myself (and the Cult for my son) but we've yet to actually get to grips with the rules and have a game, so I'm looking forward to seeing some actual gameplay vids...

Oh, and I'm on the North Yorks/West Yorks border if anyone is nearby and fancies a game...

The edit button is hidden underneath the quote button for some reason.  It's a source of constant agony for me.

Lee might be the unluckiest guy ever, but silvermoon should counterbalance the jinx. You really need to check how to use your Harukichi effectively (As an active Ki feat, the reroll aura can be thrown even if you activate another model, so launching the aura should really be your first move starting on turns 2 or 3 to maximize you rolls and mitigate Chris' outraging luck)

Hey guys,

Loving the reports :) . Got me very keen to buy more Silvermoon and crack on with the painting. So a huge thank you for that! :)

Hopefully the feedback below is taken as positive critique only, as I wouldn't even know where to start to do this myself and this has been a great resoure for a new player like me to see the game in action. And Lord knows following along with the cards in front of me it is much easier without the distraction of the game and video to focus on.  :)

Two thumbs up! :D

Feed Back re Report:

  1. The camera refocussed at a few points, and made the image very fuzzy. Don't know what can be done re that or with so many moving parts int he field of vision it may just be something to live with?
  2. I also really liked seeing the Ki amounts on the cards in the last game as well. But that may not be possible on the camera angle used in this latest. Maybe even just a run down of the Ki available at the beginning of each turn.
  3. The first video was great with the extra commentary throughout as to your reasoning about why you were taking the actions you were trying. Getting some insight like that again would be terrific :)

Feedback re Rules:

  1. Running - worth tightening up the moves for running now to avoid mistakes in the future. To run you pick a point in LOS (i.e. front 180 only), move up to 1.5x Move in a straight line, directly towards that point. A model may not Run into an Enemy model’s ZoC, into BtB with an Enemy model, or change its Facing after the movement. This is not been critical so far for the battle reports, but can easily lead to models getting "surprised" later on when they cannot change facing at the end of the run action.
  2. With the mistake on the ninjas (fair error) it may have just been best to switch the ninja miniatures in question? Neither player made any tactical decisions based on their positions as neither picked up the error. So it would make more sense to just move the minis to where you thought  they were and carrying on from that point?
  3. Turn 3 - Katsumi was attacked by and killed Wasupu, but was "tired" which tireless wold have avoided.

Feedbak re Minis:

  1. Will second the feedback re Harukichi. If he goes first and puts his Aura up (2 Ki), then you can spend 1 Ki per dice to force a reroll (per dice) including on your opponent. Which should help when those bad dice kick in. So to make sure he has an impact it's not a bad idea to give him the Coin for +1 Ki per turn and also focus in first turn to build up a lot of Ki for later turns. That nets him 3 Ki (with no coin flip) or 0/6 with the flip and then focus action for 2 Ki or for 0/4 Ki with the flip more or don't and get guaranteed 5 Ki with an additional 3 Ki every turn he doesn't focus. This sets him up for latter turns. Also with Aura range 8, he could have then run twice in turn 2 to stay on the other side of the river and still cover all the STS Buto and friends and the Ninjas as they attacked you all. **Note** Fear check could have been a reroll for 1 Ki or spend 4 ki to auto pass for the instance Ki Feat.
  2. Malosi has Steadfast - allows him to ignore the Defensive condition (Def => then Attack dice) from Fear.
  3. Turn 3 - missed the chance to "Intimidate" using Malosi's uique ability to cause cowardly, and avoid being attacked by a model.

FInal Words:

Awesome wrap up! :) . Review of strategy and tactics was tremendous! :)

Cheers :)

Thanks for all the comments guys and I appreciate the feedback, the camera positioning and what you actually want to see on screen is a constant dilemma for me so knowing what people prefer is great. In the last report I though people would prefer to see the board closer as feedback from the first report was that the models could not be seen too clearly. But by doing that I cut off some other information people want to see. I also want to avoid too much editing as want to be able to turn the videos out pretty quick. I have though of having cards up on screen with Ki and wounds etc but I really don't think it would add enough value for the time it takes to do.

So keep the feedback clming, it all helps.

and defo agree that we need to tighten up on some of the rules like running and zoc so will work on that for sure

I am also conscious to spend as little time on video with my head in the rulebook which can often lead to situations of play now and find out the actual rule later. Maybe we should avoid that and spend a little more time to get things right. As I would hate to be teaching the rules wrong and subsequently others playing it wrong as a result

That is a tough one. I also personally like the flow when you don't spend too long referring to rules on camera.

If pausing and editing out those breaks is not expedient, then possibly just adding a note on the footage in any instance that on later review you made an error would resolve this issue? :)

Cheers :)

Yep, and it's normal to be lost in the rules the first couple of games, I'm at my 15th or 15th game at least, and I still discover things we're doing wrong everytime.

Cheers guys, great feedback.

Yep, I haven't been using my STS properly at all but thanks to some great feedback on the STS sub, and Chris having a sleepless night, I have a number of responses up my sleeve now. My awful rolls might not be such an issue from now on!

Rules wise I confess that I'm a lazy gamer, and am usually happy to let someone else learn the rules and then just guide me. I could definitely get more clued up, and I will. Starting with what my guys can and cannot do!

Commentary was lacking in this game, that's a fair to say. I mention it in the video, but my spare room was disgustingly hot and humid and we were pretty knackered before we even started! Not much we could do about that, but we'll be sure to keep viewers engaged wherever possible.

Thanks for watching, and for the feedback!

I'll come back to this.

Good stuff mate :)

Keen to see what you do with the models when you get them.

Side note: only thing to watch for with Jump Up is being attacked whilst still prone. Silvermoon in particular have a card (Inside Information) that allows them to dictate their opponents activation order (up to 3) for a turn. So something to watch for.

Great report guys! :) . Really enjoyable to watch.

  • Great resolution re the Rerolls to carry on and check later.
  • Loved the board. Wasn't convinced in the intial hobby video but the end result is really good. :)
  • Minis looked great.
  • Angle of the camera was great and very easy to follow the action. Thanks for showing the cards :) .

Just a few Tips: again please only take these as helpful :) . I appreciate with filming and all the distractions no doubt add up for you both as well as being new to the game.

  1. Be careful of Ki use. I think the missing Ki off Senpu in turn 2/3 was due to accidentally using his Ki instead of Harukichi's for the Aura in the previous turn. Harukichi should only have had 2 Ki unless he Flip for It or Focussed again.
  2. Be cautious of activating special attacks/defense  and not using them. :) . I think you rememered most in the end (key one being Senpu Sweep Attack on Hiro - which was a great move :) ) . At one point Chris didn't use his Side Step with his Female Samurai. Because Lee rolled no attacks the Defense automatically works.
  3. Missed reload on Minuro *Arquebus for the Prefecture* Means he only fires 1/3 actions. Or uses his reload Ki feat.
  4. Leadership is for Fear tests only. Not all Ki tests.
  5. Malosi - Unique Effect - in starting phase can make a model Cowardly and lose Bravery and not able to attack him. Not guaranteed vs Hiro (Ki Test), but worth a shot and may have saved the Critical Strike take down.
  6. Harukichi - when he has no Ki and in trouble don't be affraid to Flip for It. Difference between 2 Ki and 0 Ki is not much if he is in immediate danger, whereas 4 Ki could help a lot. Also Manu can Bodyguard him to shepherd him up the board earlier and thus have wider zone of control with his Aura. :)
  7. Tsubaki - has Elusive to ignore enemy ZOC during her move. As they cannot "engage" her prior to targetting her she could have slipped away at the end. Similarily though she has no ZOC whilst disguised, so Chris could have Prayed at the icon next to her unless she dropped her disguise to attack.

One of the benefits of the Prefecture, is they are 'simple' with limited quirks. Silvermoon can be very good but need to maximise the knowledge of and use of their tricks. Already this report showed the power of knowing and leveraging Harukichi's rerolls on the Big Men and their opponents. :)

Once again, HUGE thanks for these videos gents! :) . Really got me excited to get deeper into the game and were sorely lacking prior to TotM. Please keep it up! :)

+1 to this. Great idea. Would also love to see a quick video show case of their forces.

I dont think the hoard is ruined. Can still be a nice board. Just not as versatile as it was. You can always finish it off and make another? Although if you were concerned about the sand damaging peoples models then that wont have changed?

I like the idea of faction experts running through their minis and maybe give some tips about list building?

It would definitely help me as a total beginner building my army
