42 rice tournie list

I'm gonna represent STS in the upcoming "Damiyo of the South" tournament in Portsmouth in March. Need to take 42 rice and I'm yet to play this faction, so I guess it's a bit of a challenge especially as I don't have loads of choice.

but I'm determined not to bend and take my Temple and give the naughty boys a go.

I think I'm gonna have to take Dafukaia and the Kami - 4 dice melee plus Brutal 1 along with lots of fire tokens!

Honoko/Hakushi/gorilla are tempting and maybe a pit dog or two, to take advantage of command/sic 'em

I like Tsubaki, Wasapu and Manu from the starter but not sure which to take.

so thinking

Dafukaiai + Kami =     14

Honoko + Hakushi =   12

Pit dog =                      3

Tsubaki =                     7

either Wasapu or gorilla or another dog+cards

thoughts?

I've only played 42 rice a couple times so these comments are more generalized. At that sized game, Wasupu and Manu will be tough to deal with because there will be less options for your opponent to throw at them. If you take Honoko, I like Wakasu gorilla and pit dogs. Or even pit dogs by themselves. I'm not a huge fan of Dafukaiai. I'd take Honoko and animals instead and let Manu do the heavy lifting. One thing you'll learn pretty quick with the STS, more Manu is the answer to everything! Good luck!

After giving your list some more thought, I think you could make it work. Dafukaiai can handle 1 threat, Honoko and animals can handle another threat, Wasupu can easily kill mid-low level threats, and Tsubaki can seduce with some luck.

Minor, that was along the lines I was thinking. The alternative would be swap out Wasapu and Kami (what?!?) for Gorilla and another dog plus card

Would gain Iron Fist theme then...

Honoko can't be included in an Iron Fist Gumi theme because she has a ranged attack. Also wouldn't be much gain without some buto in your list.

As for gorilla, I like him and use him but he ALWAYS dies due to his aggressive trait. I'm just thinking Hakushi will allow you to side step out of trouble much easier and survive into the late game.

Of course your right about theme, damn.

On a different note. What do you think of  Sukoshi Kani as an option? I like the spike trap plus she can scenario unlike pit dog

I have zero experience with Sukoshi Kani. I'm not even sure how her trap works... Does it stay the whole game? Only one turn? Does it work if she moves out of BTB with it?

I'm guessing it stays for the whole game as there is nothing to contradict this, there is also mention of her needing to remain in base. Makes sense as she wouldn't hoover them up when she moves and its a once a game feat?

Used Dafukaia today, he used Inferno twice sticking 4 fire 1 tokens on Tra-Peng, the weird Bake shaman and a bake spearman, before getting swamped by gremlins. I liked him a lot and his Kami was MVP, but 14 rice is an investment in a 42 rice list.

Next list will have him AND Manu, we shall see...

If you use the IFG theme you should pick Oda too. This will give you a great T1 game (Order is great going forward too of course), supposing you pick 2 Butos. And Jumo tokens are awesome on almost any bruiser in STS.

On animals I prefer 2 to maxmise on the Handlers Command. It´s an awesome tactical tool.

If not going IFG Wasapu + Inside Information is a sure bet.
