Hi all,
Hi all,
My name is Nic, and I'm from Sydney, Australia. I've been an on and off gamer (wargaming, rpg, all the rest of it!) for over 20 years, but it's been hard to get into stuff recently since my group of gamers have had a major attack of life and basically gone their separate ways (all over the world!).
Recently I reconnected with a childhood mate who turned out to be a gamer too. He told me about this game (Bushido) that had caught his eye, and after a skim through the rules and a look at the amazing miniatures, I was hooked!
Because of the smaller number of minis to collect, and the smaller game boards (I've never played any skirmish games before, only big stuff like WH), I've decided to really take my time and do a really good job on everything. I hope to post stuff once it's done (but not for a while yet, I'm sloooooow at this stuff!). Bushido has even inspired me to research Japanese architecture and landscaping, and it turns out Sydney (and a few places not too far away) have awesome Japanese Gardens. I've visited a few places and have had some really good inspiration.
My first faction I'm putting together are the Ito, though the Ryu and Temple have definitely caught my eye too! Though, to be honest, I'm really looking forward to the day the Bear Clan become a faction in this game...

Another Bushido-newcomer here.
My name's Brad from Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Well I live here nowadays anyway.
I started wargaming when I was 14 and ever since my favorite realms are historical and fantasy. I do play sci-fi and other random stuff but my heart really lies with the former two.
I also play card games and it was through L5R that I got into contact with two guys who just discovered Bushido. Since we all dig Oriental-fantasy based games I decided to check it out and quickly got hooked.
Most of my friends are heavily into Japanese culture whereas I am more into Han-Chinese. We can all appreciate the Oriental-fantasy genre as it's the best of everything really.
My first starter was Ito because I refused to fall for the trap of playing dead things(aka The Cult). I'm kind of known for my attraction to undead things(okay that came out wrong LOL) so I decided to do the next best thing. Snakes!
However as another guy in our group already played Ito I decided to give in and "take up the Cult as my second group". Now, two-three weeks later, guess which is now my biggest collection? *sighs*
My last purchases were Mo Isis and the giant rat swarm to use in combination with Nezumi and his furry pals. I also bought the giant cave bat not too long ago and use it as a proxy for Gok. Why? Well check out my username, I'm crazy for bats and carry my nickname proudly.
I will one day buy the Gok model though, probably for tounament purposes as not to confuse people but right now my flapping pal does the trick (and I can make bonus squeeky sounds).
I'm amazed at some of the sculpts in this game and cannot wait what is in store for all of us. I love how fast it plays(once you get to know all the traits and special attacks/defences) and the fact you could even play it on a small tea-table.
It's such a refreshing way to play after huge armies that need two carry cases and skirmish games that need so many tokens you'd better buy another table just to hold them.
I'm currently trying to get some much-needed time in to paint!

I've realised that despite posting on here for a wee bit I have yet to introduce myself. so here goes!
Hi, I'm Martin from Glasgow. Long time gamer, average painter & forum lurker.
I've really liked the look of Bushido since I saw it start up. I eventually got the Cult starter (undead thing going on with rats!) and have built up to having 3/4 of the Cult stuff. I'm finally starting to paint my stuff and had my first demo game last week from a Retainer in Glasgow at the G3 gaming club.
I really enjoyed the game and I hope to play lots more games. Thankfully the retainer has boards as my terrain skills are woeful and I have limited space and money.
I'm in the process of getting rid of the model games where you need a bucket load of guys (where most look the same) and want to focus more on skirmish games where the models have more individuality (check me with the big word).
I hope to participate ore on the forum and whenever I get my dark forces painted I will post some pics.
Better get back to work now!

Hey Guys and Girls,
Hey Guys and Girls,
I'm Marcel from Munich, Germany. Didn't play Bushido yet, but as soon as my Temple starter arrived I'll get going. Some of my friends picked up other Starters and we decided to give it a try. I'm relly curious how it will feel, playing Bushido :)
I'm playing Infinity and Malifaux (lots of Malifaux) normaly. But Bushido looks like it fill in a gap, because the Style of playing is a bit different :)
Hi Marcel,
Hi Marcel,
welcome aboard. Glad to have some more people from Germany on board.
Let us know how your first games go and if you have any questions feel free to ask them. You will find the Bushido community to be one of the friendliest around.

A friendly community is great! You can feel cozy and at home :)
This will be the first time I'll learn a System just from the book. Every other system I've played so far I had some advisor, demo-giver or patient opponent. But I think most of the rules have to looked up during the play, all these special Attack and Defence Rules?

As a tip, try to give you and your opponent a "demo game" the first time around.
Use about three models per side (or round about 25 points) so you don't have to memorize all the Traits/Feats and Specials in your first go.
Welcome, Glassquid, and you
Welcome, Glassquid, and you others I've missed to say hi to!
DasLeo gives good advice. I'd actually even recommend doing a first little demo with just one model each, and skip the specials and feats at first. Perhaps just run a couple of turns to get the feel for it.

Howdy all. Posted a couple of times elsewhere on the site before noticing this thread, so i figure i better introduce myself as i have a funny feeling i'm around to stay. (",)
I'm Dale and i'm from the FAR north of Scotland (the nearest place to me you've prob heard of is John O'Groats or Dounreay, about 120 miles north of Inverness). I'm the Master Interrogator (chaplain) in my 40k clan and anyone who knows me will tell you i'm verbose to say the least - so don't expect many small posts from me! (",)
Been playing 40k for about a year now and, though i love the fluff and stuff, having to spend £30 on a box of mannies that are all the same, needing to buy 2 (sometimes 3) of these boxes for a single unit, needing 50+ models to play a game that you need to set aside an entire day to play, have all contributed to my waning enthusiasm. Was thinking about moving onto WHF before as my Dark Angels were nearing completion but then all these aforementioned seeds of doubt crept in and i thought "if i don't want to live on the street then i need to get rid of GW from my life".
I can't remember if i was looking for a skirmish game first or something with an Eastern flavour (i've always loved Japanese culture and even began teaching myself the language a short time ago) but i stumbled onto "Ronin" by Osprey: an interesting game i'm still eager to try - and quite cheap. From there i found this and i've found something positive in pretty much every facet of the product.
Which faction/s shall i play? Let's not kid ourselves, we know we're going to own every single model at some point (",). But to begin with i think i'm going to start with PoR to learn the game and i'll use my second starter set as my "army proper". Prob something needing a bit more finesse/tactics to master like CoY, IC, or even ToR-K (monks are cool). SS will be one of the best/strongest by the sounds of things once they get more models, but i'll be leaving the SW until last i think. I think they're one of the coolest factions and the ultimate bad-guys with cool models - but they seem to be the most difficult to play, if not the most difficult to paint.
Now that you all know me i promise that's the longest post any of you will ever be subjected to by me. I'm somewhat of an insomniac, so i apologise for the time of night/morning of my posts, and please forgive my abuse of this space with rambling - i promise i'll be good if you just let me stay, and i don't eat much and i'll never let it happen again. (",)

Hi,
Hi,
I am Bartjan from Leiden (the Netherlands)
I have always played the more large scale battles like warhammer and mantic but most of my miniatures are in rotterdam at my folks place (my dad also plays and most of the guys i used to play against also live in rotterdam). But because I hate dragging te large amount of models around I decided to try a more small scale game this time. I also played quite some D&D but you need more people for that and work is making it harder to plan games. I started searching around for some skirmish games and also played some others. But I love the japanese feel of the models and decided to start with bushido as well. I am not completely sure what faction I will be playing I now have the starter set of the Savage Wave and the Cult but I will certainly ad one of the samurai like factions (not sure which one Ryu or Ito or maybe both). Since those models also make for great (both literally and figurally speaking) D&D characters.
As soon as I got the models and rulebook I played a few skirmishes of a few models on each side to see how the game worked and it actually feels rather smooth despite having to look up large amounts of rules. And since I am new to ther rules as well I hope I can convince some of my (asian loving) friends to try it out as well.

Take a look at the player locator.
And fill in your adress in your profile - that'll make you show up on the map*.
* But don't just put Leiden, be a little more specific. Otherwise it'll put you in a standard point for Leiden, and if there are more than one of you there only one will be visible.

I've been working on designing and sculpting miniatures, ilustrations for various RPG scenarios etc- namely anything related to RPG/ wargaming I've been able to put my hands on. Ahoy sailors!
Ahoy sailors!
Steven knowles here, armed with an exploring hat and boundless optimism from northwest England, trying to rediscover my feet in miniature collecting/gaming, so to speak.
Alexsmith got me to play a few games as a way to help him practice for Smogcon, and have to say I looked at the models again and realized they're actually flipping superb sculpts, and the game itself is the right size for me to mentally digest (which personally became a big problem with Warmachine/Hordes as that game has grown).
In spite of only having 3 games in total, didn't stop either of us from attending a tournament today with some Cult borrowed off the very same Alex, and I picked up almost all the Silvermoon trade syndicate range while I was at it. If I go into something, it's generally with both feet, soooo yeah

And though option to start with the Cult, they are not one of the easyer factions to play in my opinion.
Fortunately I have no regrets about it.

I really wanted to go to Smog con for the warma hordes but money was tight before christmas so I sadly didn't get a chance to get an early ticket (dern new computer, mmhmm). Next year though? Oh I'll be there
Yeah the Kairai were bit of an ache to handle from a scenario perspective (but then the Ikiryo has bounced her fair share of wounds onto Hiro takashi, blown up Minuro and fiddled with enemy ki plenty). It was mostly coincidence that Alex had the most options for Cult at the time, and despite the ache of handling kairai for the first time I'm glad I was able to learn how easily durable can be circumvented on things like the marionette.

See you soon in modelling ;)

Hi Everyone. My name is Martin from Las Vegas in the US. I'm new to Bushido, but have been looking at the game for a while as feudal Japan/L5R are one of my favorite genres. Have not yet played the game. I'm waiting on my starters for Ro Kan, Ryu, and Syndicate to arrive. Been reading through the rules and forums in the meantime. Bushido looks to be a very cool game and quite different from the miniatures games I usually play.

Between the two, I would
Between the two, I would recommend the STS starter over the Prefecture for doing demos vs. Temple. I've always found Temple vs. Prefecture (using the starters only) leans very heavily in favor of Prefecture. STS vs. Temple gives a bit better balance in my opinion.

Hi, Sath, Ilraenor & Aryus!
And I agree (as always) that the Prefecture can be a little hard to demo with. Before players start to master the other factions their armour and overall fighting competence wins a little too easily.
To get the full mileage out of the other factions you need a little more grasp of the game.
(Which does not mean that the Prefecture is easy to master - you need more expertise to get the full mileage out of them as well, but they accelerate faster from standing still.)
