after the starter box were to go from here

i have just got the starter box and after a few games im looking at what would be some good additions

i will get the whole faction but i need to stagger my spending while maximising my play time

can i just grab what i think looks cool or are there combos that i can get to shake up the starter box?

i like mikio and takashi  but after reading about them im not sure about them

Welcome to Prefecture!

From experience I would get Hagane for the armour piercing and ability to boost more dice than Hiro in combat.  As Greeny said above, Daisuki is the best healer prefecture have and is therefore effective at keeping your samurai alive.   Bikou is a nice addition for a change of play style but I wouldn't call her a must include for Prefecture.

If you want combo's then the ashigaru have great synergy when you run them more of them (I haven't got the banner bearer yet but the conch blower is good start).

Bikou is really powerful.  And force you to think in an other way. Matsu is fine too, and can prone ennemy. Mikio is very strong, but not the funiest mini to play :-) Every non-ashigaru as a strong impact on the play, pick the one you like the most !

Agree.

If do you need ranged attacks or prone people take Matsu Takashi.

If do you need someone fast and tricky to kill determinate models take Bikou.

If do you need reinforcements for the bulk of mele combats and lots of control/prone take Mikio.

If do you need someone cheap to support your ashigaru force take Daisuke.

If do you need someone to bodyguard important/fragile model, or resistant agains Fear and other powers take Tenshi.

If do you need little of everything take Mizuchi.

Nice threat, I only have the starter and Mizuchi at the moment (I had to get Mizuchi because I love the model and got me into the prefecture), but I feel that a 12 rice model in a 50 rice game is a big chunk in your army. I rather have two lesser models instead of one big thing.

So as mentioned above I will also get these three models for my next expansion.

??? If you dont use 12 rice models in 50 rice list, when will u use them?
Don't worry, it is fine at this size. You opponent will take some anyway.

Mizuchi cost 14 rice.

But even at 35 rice, I take at least a model that cost 10 and sometimes only 9 (hanso). But taking hiro (11) at 35 it's not a problem. At 50 rice, I would play with at least 2 models with a cost higher than 10.
