Painting Bushido

Hi,

Just very recently found this game and have got myself the starters for Ryu and the Cult and a few extras. Nobody here in northern Sweden plays the game for what i know, but i figured i'd be the first. It's really not that often that a game shakes the very ground beneath me, but i just love me some samurais. That japanese aestitichs is just so spot on for me, so regardless if a get the game going or not i still get to enjoy painting up a couple of factions or so. But i'm hopefull to get some games in aswell, when i started collecting Infinity nobody played that game either, and now we have a small but active group that plays that fantastic game like every other week (if time permits from family and work ofcourse), and hopefully i can lure some of those guys on to the path of Bushido too.

So, enough of that. Here's my very first go at Bushido, the prefect of Ryus Iiju Makoto. I've seen a couple of guys doing a japanese sign on their base marking the center, and that looks so cool so i stole that. The symbol should read Samurai, but hey, who knows... :)

He is missing the sword bit that goes on his hip, it wasn't in the blister. I sent a mail trough the contact form and hopefully it shows up in the mail someday. Unfortunatly the pics of him finished with a protective coat and a compledted base didn't photograph so well. I just got my cellphone to take photos with, but heres a close up taken seconds before i put on the varnish.

Thanks for looking, cheers! / Martin

Wow, looks great!

The symbols are for gaming purposes (mostly), it's very important with line of sight in Bushido, which is 180 degrees, hence the marking on the front. Some people put one on each side as well which could be useful. Anyway great desaturated tones, looking forward to see your cult (the faction I play with!) :)

There are quite a few players here in Gothenburg, but it's all about convincing your friends to join, that's what I did!

Amazing work indeed and as samuel wrote Bushido has quite a following in Sweden. We´ve had a tourney at every GothCon since 2013 for example and post summer there´ll be one in Malmö :)

Thanks guys. Yeah, i'll do my best to convince some friends to give the game a chance. Browsed the internet and already saw you got a bushido community going on down there in the south. I'm from Umeå, and i belive we got a pretty good wargaming scene here, but most people play 40k or AOS plus games like malifaux. I actually only play Infinity these days.

will post more modells as i finish, like i said, have 2 starters (ryu and cult) plus pannangaling that should arrive today. Fun days ahead, cheers!

Thanks. Yes, pigments on the base. I find them to look alright with minimum effort.

Built my first board for Bushido. (in fact, my first board ever...) There definitly has been some learning going forward for whenever i muster the energy to build a second board in the far future. Also...it's damn messy building a board. First the apartment got a blue from the foamboard. Then all green from the flock. Then the kitchen tablecloth got a nice glossy finish from not having properly sealed off the river section. :0

Anyway, i'm happy with the end result seeing as there was a lot of trial and error doing this board. I hope the water effect will get clearer over time as it is a little milky/foggy at the moment. (used vallejo still water). There are several layers of water, and i added ever so little extremly watered downed Hawk turquise on one layer, but it really took over. For the most part, it's just straight out of the bottle still water.

I have a few more terrain pieces in the mail. I also figurered it would be quite easy changing the mood of the board with just diffrent terrainpieces as the board itself is almost flat.

Beautiful board! Is the milky effekt gone beter by now?

Could you do me a huge favor? I'm planning my first board myself at the moment and thinking about buying the exact same two building aus you did. Can u well me the dimensions so I can plan better?

The small buildings is roughly 8cm x 9,5cm and The bigger house, porch included, roughly 11cm x 12cm.

Time will tell If the milkyness goes away, no real diffrence yet...

Scale wise looks great. You may want a bit more scatter terrain for certain matchups as shooting can be brutal with no cover and factions such as the ninjas rely a lot on the use of cover to move around. but apart from that looks great

Thanks mate. Yes, got more terrain on the way. I got a few resin asian tombstones from plastcraft and a torii from Warsenal. Also have objectives comming from mastercrafted Miniatures. Also have an Idea about getting clear acrylic circles for zone of controll mission. I think that would look good.

And since the board itself is kind of vanilla i think a few vastly diffrent pieces of terrain can really change the setting. Like making a few rice Fields for a more farmer type scene, maybe getting a few dead trees to go with the tombstones for a more spooky setting. Thinking it is probobly easy to make a road that can lay upon the creek etc. I think theres lot of options for lots of variation without making a completly new board and make storage much easier.

Good stuff all around! I have the biggest building of the set(don't remember the manufacturer) and I think the building is a hair too small. Nothing too bad but as the scale of Bushido minis are kinda all over the place, some of the bigger models look and fit like they are bigger...

Yup, we do so to locally. It´s simpler to have loose terrain pieces than fixed boards imo. Fixed boards are good for demoing and diorama, but tends to get stale after a while imo.

Cheers guys!

Very long time since i posted here, mostly been adding my stuff to the facebook group, but figurered i'd update this thread as well with my finished stuff so far.

Prefecture:

Will be adding a few more shortly, Katsumoto and Matsu. After playing some i think i'll mainly play these as the theme for samurais. Not that i find the theme specially strong, but the ashigarus doesn't really tickle my fancy somehow. I like the heroic samurai list. So ismu up there will mostly be played as the Young Takashi.

Cult of Yurei:

Unfortunatly, a few of these are a bit glossy from the protection seal. These guys... well, they play really strong. I mostly just go with lots of kairai, gengo and cato and/or gok. You lose first scoring round mostly, but then the zombies really shine.

Also, looking back at my first post here when i plundged head in trying to convince my friends about this game. Lets just say we went really mental and all, just a few months later, each have a board of our own and 2 factions each. Actually i just ordered a whole bunch of savage wave, so expect wicked little gremlins later.

Eriks board:

Kevins board:

My board:

I added a frame to it, so i actually can make a simple flat board on the reverse side.

Anyway, thanks for looking. Cheers!.

Finished my second Oni, Waka! Really fun mini to paint, i love these Onis. He is missing his horns, but hopefully they will turn up in the mail some day so i can add them later.

Cult of Yurei (36), Ito Clan (19) and Silvermoon Trade Syndicate (20) now painted up and on the table.

Thought i'd update this some. Painted up all the bakemonos from the strater. Nothing all that fancy, but painted none the less. And waka got his horns.

Also just finished the takashi anchestor. Quite difficult but fun to paint something using more or less one colour. It's not as muted as i normaly paint my bushido miniatures, but rather a quite bright blueish turqoise. Maybe it doesn't really match the rest of the warband, but i'm satisfied with it anyway. Hopefully i can master playing the anchestor soon. I recently bought a handfull of additional prefecture minis to open up the playbook so to speak. So Mizuchi among others will be painted soon to smash the foes of the prefecture. :)

Cheers!

Finished some more cult. Will do a repaint of what cult i had finished earlier, as i don't think they got to the same standard as the wave and prefecture. The armless zombie will be played as a kusatta kairai. She's fresh out of rise test by now.  Anyway, less words, more pictures.

More zombies! Only got a farmer left to paint and the armoured kairai needs a repaint, so left out of this picture. Touched up the villager too so she's in line with the other Kairai.

Thanks for looking, cheers!

Well, finished another oni. Just thought i'd add him here as well.

Cheers!
