SInce you asked nicely smiley

All VMC acrylics...

Basecoat with middlestone.

Shade with a wash of chocolate brown, then glazes of violet red followed by bronze green.

Re-touch the basecoat, then highlight by adding in more and more silver grey. Highlighting should be along the edges of scales using zenithal lighting.

Then black-line the lower edges of scales and any undefined breaks between scales with German camo brown.

Patterns were painted on by colouring in scales with violet brown, then highlighted by adding in khaki.

Drybrushing might be faster, but you'll end up with it looking powdery/dusty.

These are the standard colours I use for brass NMM too as seen here:

More studio paintjobs from the new wave now that they've hit the homepage. Sukoshi Kani and Nomi (I'm not sure which is which though, or why one of them is called "Nice Crab"???

Next up will be Saburo or Satsuki (both on the painting table).

By KABOCHA

I vote for satsuki!

The picture are a bit blue, aren't they? Nasty kids, and brilliant paint!

Latest updates (Satsuki and Saburo) are below, I'm sure Satsuki's family name is really Kardashian cheeky. Just Mizuki to go and the full Ito range (except for cobra-head stick guy) will be done. photo 2014-10-27225800_zpsf467acc6.jpg

It's been a while since I posted here as I've been busy with Eden miniatures. Here's the most recent studio paint job on Kioshi Makoto (I think that's correct).

Solid paintjob. So eden? painting to play or are you a studio painter over at taban aswell now through this gig? I was under the impression that the owner painted all their studio models? Or has the workload of running taban increased to the point that he feels the need to hire painters?

Just painting to play. ISC (unsurprisingly), Convoy and Matriarchy. If I can't find anyone wanting a game of Bushido at club nights, then Eden is the default alternative.

My second faction is under way. Three weekends of work and I've got this lot done, another couple of weekends and I'll have my peasants and spindly yokai done too. photo 2015-02-08160551_zps07ddad19.jpg

cheeky to Greeny

First batch of peasants done, at first I wasn't keen on the sculpts, but now I really like them.
Hisao and Anhinaga Tenaga are on the painting table now. I really hope there's a peasant themed army in the next card pack.

Beautiful as alway! Love the bases too.

By Ret-Magnus

Lovely work, how much is done with an aibrush and how much is brush blends?

By trapthem (not verified)

Awesome work, really awesome - love the terrain bits ;)

What does the kanji on the figure's bases say - Left, Right, Front & Back?

By Mooseking (not verified)
KABOCHA's picture

@trapthem: All done with a bog-standard hairy stick dipped in acrylic paint.

@Mooseking: Almost correct; left, right, eyes and the other two are just A and B for cards that can have more than one mini on them.

Hisao is done, but needs dull coating, pigments and grass tufts. Pics up at the weekend probably, with Ashinaga Tenaga following shortly.

By KABOCHA
Greeny's picture

Damn your skilled and clearly inhuman eyes, one day I'll track down the creature you sold your soul to for such abominable skills...;)

Hisao is done and ready to heal some monks and peasants. Ashinaga is under way. photo 2015-02-28 16.42.28_zpsts0w7ryl.jpg photo 2015-02-28 16.43.09_zpsjhdxx9ib.jpg

Nice work on Temple minis, as usual!

As I work on them, I know better than others minis the quality of the painting!  smiley

Ashinaga Tenaga has been finished for a week, but I've only just had a chance to get the photos up now. FYI, his right hand is pinned at the wrist, it really needs this otherwise the weight would cause it to drop off while the glue is drying. His left hand and left foot are both pinned to the base topper that comes with the mini. photo 2015-03-09 22.16.26_zpsrx14w2hf.jpg Back to Ito next with Mizuki.

Now that the Goshi is up on the front page I can post the other views of her. She was a really fun and fast mini to paint.

While the Northwest daimyos were crushing their enemies, seeing them driven before them and hearing the lamentations of their wimmin at the weekend, I was painting Mizuki.

Next up will be Master Ekusa, some kami, a viper and probably Yuui Ito.

It certainly is! A 50/50 mix of London Grey and Purple.

Here's the next one, a shimogamo viper painted in the colours of a red spitting cobra and a Brahminy kite...

This is simply stunning stuff!  Well done good sir!

If I may ask, are you using glazing to get the blend so smooth on your highlights?  Or if not, what technique are you using?

Great work again!

By Rippler (not verified)

Stunning work as usual, we need to get some games in in 2016, maybe even run a tournament.

If the Ito can have a kami, then so too can the Temple (since it's their thing).

Earth kami...
