Fighting on the roof tops

Here is a photo of my Silvermoon Trade Syndicate roof top table.

I was inspired by the STS moving ilicit goods across the roofs of the city and being intercepted by ninjas

Roof tops

We play it such that if you are going up from one roof to another and the difference is waist height or less no movement penalty, waist to top of head means no running/charging and above head height is impassable (unless you can fly).

You can drop down without penalty except from the two tallest roofs to the lowest centre roof which also prevents running/charging.

If you get pushed off a roof or scaffold onto the grey area below the mob following the fight at ground level will kill you :)

Most minis are ok as the slopes are not excessive but top heavy models (Buzenbo) and very light minis (Taka) have trouble so we use a little bit of blu-tack to keep them in place.

Great take on a themed game board! Im always so envious of the modellers/painters/terrain builders...

I (like many others I'm sure) have been wanting to build a 13 Assassins style table for years now. This is a great application of that. Hats off sir!

Now that is very cool. Were the tiles done with a ready made sheet? i think doing them with corrugated card or sculpting by hand would drive me quite mad. Also is the eight inch circle just shaded round the edge? its a rather cool effect as i just cant work out if its flat (i think it is) or if there is some additional sculpted depth.

thank you for all the positive feedback.

As for the construction...

The buildings and roofs are made from foam board. The edges of the roofs were painted red.

The tiles are a pantile pdf I purchased online then had printed onto self-adhesive sheets, cut to size and stuck on. The ridge lines are lengths of copper pipe covered with the ridge tile pattern from the pantile pdf.
Being copper enabled me to bend the ends up in the oriental fashion. The ends of the pipes were then plugged. Finally I did a few layers of white glue with a light dusting of sand to provide some grip to the slopes.

I marked where all of the idols/areas would go and permanently marked all of them except the small areas as I felt that would look too messy. The large areas are just stained.
For the objectives I did a couple of roof repairs on one building and a couple of holes with plants growing through on another. For the last two I cut up a scouring pad to make two crane nests.
For the lowest middle roof I added a chimney which isn't exactly correct but I think it looks ok.

The only other item is the scaffold. I originally planned to put a tree there but realised it was within 2" of an objective so I needed to make the area accessible.

Cult of Yurei (36), Ito Clan (19) and Silvermoon Trade Syndicate (20) now painted up and on the table.

Oh, and everything is permanently mounted onto a card board which folds in half making it easy to transport and it sets up in 2 seconds.

I'll chime in to say that this board is brilliant in person with such a strong theme. As Kevin mentioned, Buzenbo needs a wee bit of blu-tack to keep from toppling if he's near the edge, but he's particularly top-heavy compared to most other minis.

You wouldn't believe it from the photos, but the darn thing folds cleanly in half for ease of travel! Lovely board.
