Strategy against Temple of Rokan

Played a 50 point match against Temple of Rokan. Didn't do too well. i use the sisters with Kanut and Nuniq and Tarobo.

Was stil learning about the sisters abilities. but the Temple models themselves hit hard and with traits like side step and a few models that can channel or give blessings were very hard for me to overcome.

Are there Tengu players that have fared well against Temple ? what would be a strategy that i have to employ or things i need to take note of?

My typical 50 rice as tengu looks like this :

  • Kanut
  • Taliriktug
  • Tarobo
  • Convocation of Eagles
  • Maniitok
  • Zephyr Guard x2
  • Kami of Eternal Earth

To beat the temple I send Kanut to handle their bigest threat for the whole game. And I use Taliriktug or the Kami to kill one of their weaker model with Brutal.

It's getting harder with their newer release they tend to have more model than before, but usually I can outnumber them, stun or surprise them to get a kill if needed. Being extra mobile with the Zephyr and the Convocation helps a lot.

Good Luck !

how useful are the eagles? i don't have them, haven thought of getting them yet. Thanks for the advice, i hear having 2 Zephyrs are quite useful but only have Zenkibo at the moment..

The eagle are crazy good, they bring a cheap combo strike to deal with durable model and a tireless with auto disengage that can pop behind enemy line on turn 2 if needed.

You can play Zenkibo as a Zephy if you need to save a point.

Use greater speed to get scenario position then you need to stack debuffs.

Stun, Exhausted and Prone monks die pretty fast.

This is one of the very uphill battles for Temple once you practice it a few times.

Was thinking if Kotebo with his Command and 2 Zephyrs or scouts would work to get a combo going. Or Kotenbo and Tarobo since he's a Bushi and a Zephyr.

I don't play him that often, I don't feel that he's worth his 9 rice and when I do he's here to Hack people. Command makes you loose an activation and that not something you usually want but let me know how it works to combo people.

Tarobo is a must have the free stun or 6th sense is so good and both his Ki feat are great to save him or get to objectives. He's always my VIM and has yet to die ;)

You're right about the activations, using Command turns 3 of my models tired. But if you manage to take out an enemy model in that activation, shld be worth it. i think.

You can also use the blessing special card to stop the use of ki for a turn and stack debuffs on the main models to try and take them down. Monks struggle when they have no ki, in my experience, and it can be useful against other ki reliant lists to stop their movement and combat shenanigans.

Ah yea, stopping them from using Ki might work. Might give it a try next time i go against them.
