Animal Themed Warband advice

Hi, I'm a fairly new player and want some help with my warband and different builds and possible ways to expand the collection.
To me the Animal theme is very important but that said some humans have already made it to the list ;)

My starting warband/collection is:

Aiko (prayer beads) + THe Guardian (Silverback)
Koji + Koji's Pack
Kyuubi
Kami of the Eternal Earth

And now Kuma is on the way in to expand from 35 to 42 Rice.

I really like Aiko and the gorilla. Both the models and the abilities. Both can die fast if they get cought in the wrong way but still they have their uses.
Koji and the monkeys is good at slowing the opponent down and generally getting them tired
I like Kyuubi with all his tricks, especially the displacement.
Kami is there just to fill out points and until I get Kuma ready the warband misses a good tank that can take some beating. Up until now the Gorilla has filled that role but it really just deals alot of damage...

I would likr advice on both 35 and 42 rice compositions. The models I have been looking at is Oki Shisa and Master Akari. Akari looks like he would function in a similar was as the Koji pack, delaying the enemy but I'm not sure. Oki Shisa just looks really tough and will be a very good at area control...

So would it be worth it if I sometimes exchange Koji and the Kami for Akira?, and what Enchantments etc. would you recommed?
How would your Animal themed Temple look like (35 or 42 rice)
Not really a big fan of the Koji model (but I like the apes) so thats why he is first to go :)
My usual opponents play the Cult and Ito Clan.

Akari is an important part of my Temple faction as he is superb at scenario points, particularly VIM.

have you thought of using Kitsune?

Akari is a beast so hard to hurt in melee and shooting. I hate playing against him

So how do you use akari? Run up front and then go full defence...

I have looked at Kitsume but am unsure of what she will bring to the team.

If I bring them who should be left at home?

My suggestion with Akari is to buy him Hotai's Coin.

He is VERY susceptible to negative MS modifiers.  Outnumbered and Exhausted are easy to inflict, once you have that he can die to any poor roll.  Remember he can be one-shotted by a SL 2 melee attack!

For me, I reached the point where if he was stunned, blinded or anything early in a turn I would simply run him away as he would almost guaranteed die later once he was exhausted.  In fact I don't think he's yet survived a game for me anyway.

Thats not to say he's not good at other stuff!  His specialty as well as getting to scenario positions is simply exhausting many, many enemy models between split attack and vitality.

He's an awesome ViM, parry2 from memory and his ki feats, allowing him an extra activation and dash giving him auto disengage and elusive. Also idol type scenarios. Zones are probably a bit more difficult for him.

Just don't throw him in head first and attack that's not what his strengths are. Always all out defence with him that's his strength. I have only managed to kill him once in about 10 games. So da gobbo is the one to answer this.

Thanks for the advice.
So how would a warband with Akari in look like, considering my current collection and theme?

I like the model and if I'm not remembering things wrong he gas some kind of relationship with Kuma so it would be nice fluff wise

Well for a recent 42 rice tournament list I had

master Akari

aiko and the Guardian and silverback card, arashi fan

Koji and pack

kenko (north tree)

with a free Kami for righteous warriors theme

so you could sub out Kenko for kyyubi or Kuma and drop the arashi fan card

I'm considering running Akari, vitality and auto Disengage plus combo attack/Sidestep 0 means he can take a few attacks and then go postal on a model facing the wrong way once the opponent has finished exhausting himself trying to take Akari down.

Talking of animals, the standard bull can be taken in the monks theme and for 8rc you get a competent fighter that can influence scenario objectives, hand out a localised re-roll each turn for a combat/ leadership roll and give a model toughness 1 each turn making Akari or Kuma that bit harder to kill.

Koji and pack seem good too, I love coordinated attack and group activation for immediately exhausting an opponents key model and Koji is strong against similar RC models. Sixth sense for everyone within 2" of a monkey is also great for avoiding surprise attacks (you don't want to lose ki boost capability as temple and surprised is easily the strongest benefit any model can gain over an opponent) also it helps with winkling out those pesky ninjas!
