Fluff questions - Bear clan allied families.

Loving what I'm seeing of the Minimoto so far.  Quick question; any clue on what the totem or clan symbols of the Hoshi and Masaema families are?  Or are they too minor to have such a symbol?

Also will the new rulebook have any addiitonal fluff on the various clans and the Empire?  I loved the section in the New Dawn rulebook, but it left me hungering for more!

The Hoshi and Masaema families are so intertwined with the Minimoto that they are considered part of the Minimoto Clan, just not the Minimoto family.
Its not like the Hare Clan and the Dragons, where the Hares are loyal vassals and subservient, really they are all Bears ;)

The Hoshi don't care for such things at all, they know they are nobles and they know who their allies are.
They don't care to advertise or indeed interact in any way with other houses so they consider any clan symbols of their own superfluous.

The Masaema family are recently en-nobled so may have a house symbol given to them by the emperor but on the battlefield they use Minimoto armour and standards.

This is exactly the sort for information I was looking for, thank you!  So the Hoshi consider clan symbology superflous, and the Masaema were enobled by the Minimoto but consider themselves part of the Bear clan still, that makes sense. So it's ok for a greater clan to 'raise up' what is effectively a new noble family, but only the Emperor can grant the right to a clan symbol?

Also following that the greater 'Bear Clan' encompasses the Minimoto, Hoshi and Masaema families together, just not the Minimoto alone.  But the Takashi are Dragons and the Satou are Hares and their vassals, so you'd never consider a member of the Satou family as part of the Dragon clan?

Only the Emperor can give noble titles.
For the Masaema, the great bear himself went to the Imperial Capitol and asked the Emperor to do it for their service in the Dragon war (Almost wrote Usurpation, clearly I have been working on Shiho too much...).

2 Hare clan Samurai currently fight for The Prefecture (Well, we have models for 2) but they would never be described as Dragon Clan unless they married into the clan.

Ok, that all makes sense.  I had overlooked the additonal layer of government the Dragon clan has in that they also rule the Prefecture of Ryu, so it's falling into place for me.  I really appreciate the info, thank you!
