From the depths!

From the depths!

I am really pleased to share with you something really special to me. A painting project that has been in my mind for the longest of time.

Designing the base was a challenge I couldn’t tackle alone. I spent hours learning 3D modelling software, and purchasing files to use and add to the base, but getting Ryujin to fit and look right was not something I could do myself. Luckily, when GCT see a cool idea, they go out of their way to help, and even with the Lore and Campaign books demanding his time, Ben stepped in with invaluable help on the sculpting, refining the positions and ensuring that Ryujin’s sweeping form would fit naturally into the composition. His eye for scale and flow made the whole piece stronger.

Once printed (again by Ben!), I sat and looked at it for weeks out of fear, and then figured I should start painting. It was incredibly rewarding to paint something so epic. And was much easier than I originally anticipated. Hiro painted up really quickly, and I'm really pleased with the smooth blends and shiny metal. Ryujin is BIG, but actually his nature allowed me to be a bit rougher in application, and still get a believable result.

This is by far the most ambitious diorama I’ve attempted, and I really hope the community love the idea and how it came out.

I would also like to call out other community members. I have tried to share the load of my imposter syndrome and panic moments: Barry (energongoodie) - you took this biggest hit, Esme, Wandler, Hedley, and Alex.

I think this project just reinforces the communities want to support, but also, just proves what lovely people we play this game with. Thank you.

If you want to explore more about Bushido or dive deeper into miniature painting, I’m always happy to share techniques and lessons learned.
