Cult of Yurei
In the shadows and dark corners of the world, the worshippers of Yurei are gathering force. The many members of this cult may not even be aware that they are serving the same dark masters, but serve them they do – the Yurei Bargain, which in its various forms allows control over life and death, has proven a temptation to many different people who would otherwise have nothing in common. In the Cult of Yurei, you may think yourself the master of your own Fate but you are always advancing the unfathomable goals of dark unseen masters. Playstyle
The Cult of Yurei is a very diverse faction, drawing inspiration from the spirits and monsters of folklore.
Lacking some of the melee strength from other factions, they rely on different tactics to win the battle. Fear, control, disease, berserk, stun, fire and poison are just some of the tools they use to overcome their enemy. Summoning is also a big part of the faction and makes some of the seemingly weak models stay around a lot longer than their stats would suggest. This can be seen in the orphans summoning kami to their side, kairai repeatedly rising from the dead, and the Wretched reincarnating upon death.
Building a Cult warband is a very rewarding experience as they boast one of the largest rosters of models. This allows you to focus on sub-factions, or choose models to support and complement each other from the entire range.
The gashadokuro are a great place to start, with their durable trait and immunity to many states making them forgiving for newer players. Similarly, the kairai form an undead horde of mostly cheap and slow models. Whilst they don’t generate any ki or interact with scenario objectives, and so will need support from other models, they excel at bogging your opponent down.
Yokai, on the other hand, are some of the most expensive models within the faction but justify their price with plenty of abilities. From the Penanggalan stunning targets at a long distance to the Wanyudo creating a burst of flames, these models offer up unique niches for creative players to utilise.
